America Povera is a response to the duplicitous promise of the American Dream. These self-portraits-as First Ladies as underpaid, underappreciated workers, are painted on cardboard, a material consistent with the perceived worthlessness of women in our society, mounted on “wallpaper” with patterns of the military/industrial/corporate complex and imagery that enhances the content.  Several of these works are included in Topic Magazine's Federal Project #2.
